Examining the Queer Gaze through 17th- and 19th-Century Mannerism. Free for Louisiana Residents. Orlando Hernández Ying, NOMA’s Lapis Curator of the Art of the Americas, leads an exploration of Jupiter with a Thunderbolt by an unknown 17th-century artist and Auguste Rodin’s Age of Bronze, 1875-1876. Hernández Ying will explore how the male body, gesture, and balance are treated in the two sculptures and discuss how these two works, crafted centuries apart, are influenced by the queer gaze. This gallery talk will begin in the Great Hall and travel to the second-floor elevator lobby.
