Sleeves up for Pride drive

  • LGBT Community Center of New Orleans 2727 South Broad Street New Orleans, LA, 70125 United States (map)

The LGBT Community Center of New Orleans is proud to host its first Sleeves up for Pride drive! Our center is located in the cultural Gert Town district of New Orleans at 2727 S. Broad St, New Orleans, LA 70125. Like most of the country, we are experiencing a blood shortage. We are gearing up for our blood drive this Sunday and we will be partnering with The Blood Center, who raises awareness and organizes blood donation drives around the city.

All sponsors and hosts do understand that current FDA eligibility policies defer some folx in our community and that’s why the LGBT Center is an official sponsor and host to the Advance Study here in New Orleans which is geared to end the current 3-month blanket deferral policy for Gay, Bisexual, and transwomen donating blood to a universal, individual assessment per person given today’s technology.

With Pulse Night Club’s remembrance on June 12, we honor their lives and those that volunteered afterward in the Orlando, FL community to advocate for change to the blood donor policy as many lined up around the block from the club to donate and were turned away.

History is in our hands and we can all can help! So come on out! Come donate and/or sign up for the Advance Study! We will have music, snacks, and a few giveaways! Let’s roll up our sleeves for NEAUXLA!! Happy Pride! Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all LGBT Center of New Orleans events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Santos Rodriguez in advance at (319) 325-3430 or srodriguez1@vitalant.org
